Four bean to cup machines we cover were under £500 at every retailer checked on 21 September 2026. Two more bean to cup machines here, the Krups Arabica Manual and the Gaggia Brera, have no UK price range we could check on that date, so they are not in the table below. These are the machines we cover, not the whole UK market.

The four, side by side

Machine Width Depth Height Water tank Bean hopper Milk UK warranty UK price on 21 September 2026
De’Longhi Magnifica Evo 240 mm 440 mm 360 mm 1.8 L 250 g Automatic carafe not published £349 to £443.99
De’Longhi Magnifica S 240 mm 430 mm 350 mm 1.8 L 250 g Manual wand not published £294.79 to £349.99
Melitta Purista 200 mm 460 mm 334 mm 1.2 L 125 g None 24 months £299.95 to £399.99
Philips Series 2200 246 mm not published 371 mm 1.8 L 275 g Manual wand 24 months £279 to £279.99

If the counter is the limit

The Purista is narrowest at 200 mm, a clear 40 mm under both De’Longhi machines at 240 mm each and the Series 2200 at 246 mm.

Depth runs the other way. The Magnifica S is shallowest at 430 mm, the Magnifica Evo next at 440 mm, and the Purista deepest at 460 mm. Philips publishes no depth for the Series 2200, so front-to-back clearance is not a figure you can check before buying one.

Height puts the Purista lowest at 334 mm, then the Magnifica S at 350 mm, the Magnifica Evo at 360 mm, and the Series 2200 tallest at 371 mm. None of the four publishes the height with the hopper lid open, so measure the gap to a wall cupboard yourself and leave a margin. Cup clearance under the spout is published only for the Magnifica Evo, at 140 mm.

Weight ranges from 7.2 kg on the Purista to 9.6 kg on the Magnifica Evo, worth knowing if the machine will move between a cupboard and the counter.

If you want the milk made for you

The Magnifica Evo is the only one of the four with an automatic carafe. De’Longhi’s product page for the Magnifica Evo says “Pour the amount of milk you want into the carafe and press the MyLatte button on the control panel. The machine detects the exact amount of milk and uses all of it, so no milk needs to be stored in the fridge.”

The Magnifica S and the Series 2200 both hand you a manual steam wand instead. De’Longhi’s product page for the Magnifica S lists “Creamy milk foam with the manual adjustable milk frother”, and Philips’s product leaflet for the Series 2200 says “The Classic Milk Frother dispenses steam, allowing you to easily prepare silky smooth milk froth for your cappuccino.” Both need you to hold the jug and judge the texture yourself.

The Purista has no milk system at all. Melitta’s product page for the Purista lists its milk foam system as “No milk foam system”, so a milky drink from this machine means adding milk separately rather than using anything built in. Our guide to bean to cup against a traditional espresso machine covers what a steam wand routine adds to a morning that an automatic carafe or a milk-free machine does not.

If you hate upkeep

The four ask for different amounts of attention.

The Purista publishes the fullest routine: change the Melitta Pro Aqua water filter about every two months, run the descaling programme about every three months unless a filter is fitted, use Melitta ANTI CALC descaler, and clean with Melitta PERFECT CLEAN tablets.

The Magnifica S ties its descaling to the water hardness setting rather than a fixed number of months, and asks for a filter change about every two months of normal use. De’Longhi’s product page for the Magnifica S adds that “the removable drip tray grid can be placed in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.” The Magnifica Evo names a filter, DLSC002, and a De’Longhi descaler, but publishes no fixed descaling interval; its product page notes it “Includes a one-touch automatic cleaning function and dishwasher safe milk carafe.”

Philips says that with its AquaClean filter fitted you will not need to descale the Series 2200 for up to 5,000 cups, and its product leaflet says “the removable brew group allows you to clean it thoroughly just by rinsing it under the tap.”

Our guides to cleaning a coffee machine and descaling one set out the routines for more machines, by type.

If the budget is fixed

On 21 September 2026 the Series 2200 was cheapest at £279 to £279.99, then the Magnifica S at £294.79 to £349.99, the Purista at £299.95 to £399.99, and the Magnifica Evo at £349 to £443.99. The Magnifica S and the Purista overlap in the middle of that range.

Melitta and Philips both publish a 24 month UK warranty; De’Longhi publishes no warranty length for either Magnifica.

For the fuller field above this line, our guide to bean to cup machines in the UK covers every bean to cup machine we list, up to £1,295.

What the makers leave out

De’Longhi publishes the least of the four across both models: no grind settings count, no burr type or material, and no UK warranty length for either the Magnifica Evo or the Magnifica S. The Magnifica Evo also leaves out its used grounds capacity and any cleaning tablets.

Philips leaves out the depth of the Series 2200 and its burr type, though it does publish 12 grind settings, ceramic burrs and a 24 month warranty. The Purista is the fullest record of the four, publishing 5 grind settings, conical steel burrs and 24 months warranty, and missing only its used grounds capacity, cup clearance, auto switch-off time and whether spare parts are sold.
